I have syndicate and did not finish it. I get hate for saying that but to me it's just not the fun part of the games. Firstly I gave an up vote as this isn't hate, it's a valid point of view and secondly I'll be jumping into Odyssey after not touching the series since Black Flag. Origins is better, for sure, but if you know you'll have time for both eventually why not play syndicate first? How is the story, is it necessary/important to play before Origins? Now, I'll jump into points. I recommend you don't do it. BUT I agree with other posts, it’s too late to play origins now. I have never played all the way through AC3, Black Flag or Syndicate and Black Flag is even my favorite game in the series. It plays similar to all the other AC games, whereas AC:O has many new features and controls so it'll have a learning curve for sure. It's a great game and definitely worth playing through (at least for the modern-day side of things) the in-animus stuff for Odyssey is set ~400 years before the events of Origins so that side of things shouldn't be a problem. After completion, play origins for the Egypt experience. Are they short enough to not get aggitated? It used to be intriguing back in the early AC2 days when it was part of an episodic storyline but it ended up building up to nothing so yeah. The MD got boring for me which killed the overall experience. For the above reasons I too am more captivated by Odyssey than I was for Origins and will actually be jumping back into a series I loved on PS3 but have stayed away from on PS4. Odyssey on the other hand looks like it has a more colourful and beautiful open-world, and while it isn't a true AC game, it is sucking me in a bit with its emphasis on RPG elements, naval battles and more in comparison to Origins. I found syndicate boring. I highly suggest you play ORIGINS first. You are fine skipping it. Odyssey will continue from where Origins ended. For news, discussion and more about Ubisoft's Assassin's Creed franchise. However GO FOR ORIGINS! You're 100% right about the world seeming more colorful and captivating than others previous. Loved Syndicate. Even with all the improvements and changes to the formular over the years, at their core, AC games have very repetive gameplay. Press question mark to learn the rest of the keyboard shortcuts. Odyssey feels like an improved Origins game play wise, so it's better that you play Origins or you will miss some improvements if you play Odyssey first. Which I'm fine with, but I haven't played Origins for a while. I thought finishing origins was worth it. This. I have heard mixed reviews about Syndicate. I bought the season pass with the game and just never got around to it. It is the best option but to be fair odyssey is like origins on vitamines, and patience is a virtue, if you enjoy origins and its dlcs, then you are going to find odyssey also cheap later, and yes there is a ton of fanboys who downvote post for no reason. What would you say about just doing Origins dlc? If you care about Modern Day then yes, definitely play Origins first. So I have learnt that I should not pay full price for some I don't get the full experince from. So I doubt we'll miss out on much. I haven't played since 3, and am jumping in with Odyssey. To me, it looks like Ridley Scott's Gladiator which has my attention. It plays similar to all the other AC games, whereas AC:O has many new features and controls so it'll have a learning curve for sure. I never buy AC games at full price, because I so easily burn out on them. Thank you, you actually listed additional points in there that I agree a lot with. Should this be a game I play before purchasing Origins? The historical story comes before Origins, the MD after, but we're getting more of a MD story (so I've heard) in odyssey. There's so much filler game play. From what I've seen, there isn't a necessity. You spend 80% of your time traveling around for some irrelevant quest but this game isn't made for people who don't like to do things, it's for the person who sees a treasure here, an outpost to take over there and has to go do them. BTW Origins is a great game (despite some issues with performance and much other things), much better than any other AC, and if you can't wait to play it you can skip Syndicate, but it isn't a bad game at all, it's just fine. I recommend playing odyssey first... enjoy it, the. You know what the worst part of it is?I have 200% movement speed from the animus set on. I'll agree, its not a fun part, especially as of recent. If you play Origins right now you'll get burned very quickly when you play Odyssey. I played it while I was thinking about buying Origins or not, and I think it's a good game, great ambientation and London is beautiful, costumes are great, gameplay is medium (but better than previous AC), and the story is nothing special, doesn't catch you at all. Thank god for Ashraf Ismail, the dude saved the franchise twice now with black flag and origins. Press question mark to learn the rest of the keyboard shortcuts. Part of me wants to try giving Origins another shot, I got a decent way through it before I lost interest in it, mainly because the story and the enviroment itself wasn't grabbing me and felt like it was becoming a bit of a slog. Hey guys, huge Assassin's Creed fan, but am new to this sub. Additionally, Valhalla is basically going to be a blend of genres, meaning that if you're new to the rpg side of … Otherwise Odyssey is set before Origins and while it will have some connections to the overall lore of the franchise, you probably won't be missing much if you don't play Origins first. EDIT: the story of Syndicate doesn't tell you anything special, if you skip Syndicate you will have no loss in Origins. Agree 100%. I was suggested to NOT play both back to back, and start with Odyssey. The replacing the hidden blade with an 'historical artifact' is welcomed as a) the series hasn't really had that genuine hitman feel since AC2 and b) as a result the hidden blade has become more a gimmick than anything. Press J to jump to the feed. So I'm doing just that. I'm probably going to get a bit of hate and downvotes, but I don't mind. I don’t know why but syndicate was weird to play tbh you can tell what team made which game. Just completed it last night. I try not to play 2 similar games next to each other, and these 2 games seem extremely similar gameplay-wise. The return of naval battles is very welcomed by me as it was hands down the best part of Black Flag after AC3 sort of staled the series main features for me. For news, discussion and more about Ubisoft's Assassin's Creed franchise. So even if the games have a new gameplay element (like Black Flag) or a main character I am really invested in, if I dont focus on the main story and fuck around with side content too much, I WILL grow bored and never finish. If you play Origins right now you'll get burned very quickly when you play Odyssey. New comments cannot be posted and votes cannot be cast, More posts from the assassinscreed community. I fucking love it AND SO SHOULD YOU! I've been playing for about 10hrs now and I've come to the point where I got bored of origins the first time. Origins is better, for sure, but if you know you'll have time for both eventually why not play syndicate first? I would watch a catch up video and just hop into Origins. Sorry if I'm being dumb, but I'm assuming by MD you mean modern day? If you are interested in the story, Origins should be played first. I mean, Odyssey is much more RPG-ish and adds a lot more of skills and things to be different enough than Origins, but the objectives … Preloading it now on my ps4, and will pick up Origin on black Friday to play later, New comments cannot be posted and votes cannot be cast, More posts from the assassinscreed community.
